Hi I’m Sharon and I have the privilege of Managing the wonderful Team Rise Project. It is non-stop but I would not have it any other way, to see people grow in confidence and develop great friendships on a daily basis is fantastic and I cannot imagine ever doing anything else!
We have grown so much over the last few years and now I feel we are comfortable in our own space and getting the most out of everything we do. Finances will always be a worry, as we do not get any government funding, but with the love, support and friendship of others, we somehow manage, and I know we will do so for many more years to come.
I have had the privilege of knowing Sharon and her team for a few years and am delighted to have had the pleasure to be able to help them with the occasional fundraising event. Their love and enthusiasm knows no bounds and the work that they all do is a testament to this thriving community, so when I was asked to join the Board I had no hesitation in accepting and I look forward to being able to join with them to develop and grow.
I have nearly 15 years experience in professional fundraising within the education sector and I hope I can bring some of my skills and knowledge to help bring in much needed financial support. Every small donation makes a big difference and every donor becomes a very special part of Team Rise.
Even with two adult children and four grandchildren, Jean still finds time to invest in Team Rise. It is a good job really as she is Chair of our great organisation. We must apologise to her husband Colin for taking her away!
However, nothing can stop Jean enjoying her hols and spending quite a bit of time visiting her grandchildren in Dubai.
Now retired, she previously spent 25 years as a self employed Redundancy Outplacement Consultant, covering the north of England and Wales.
She has a wealth of experience having worked with people in the various employment sectors including manufacturing, finance,
breweries, power stations, and police forces , amongst others.
In her original synopsis Tina wrote, “I’m 49 nearly 50.” As you can see, she has now passed this milestone and it is all my fault for not typing fast enough!
Tina is the person with her hand firmly on the purse strings of our amazing organisation. She is married to Pete, who In her original synopsis Tina wrote, “I’m 49 nearly 50.” As you can see, she has now passed this milestone and it is all my fault for not typing fast enough!
gets roped in to all sorts for us as well. In fact “roped” is a good choice of phrase as I have just had the pleasure of being on the adjacent Zip Wire to him!
Tina has been all over the place! Despite having a couple of cats which she can’t take with her, she loves to travel and so far has 76 countries under her belt. Pete gets to go as well!
She did want me to point out that she has no caravan! Best sort of holiday ever!!!)
As a lifelong friend of Sharon I was delighted to join the Board of Team Rise – knowing how much the charity means to her and how it helps so many people. My day jobs finds me in the corporate world, heading up two advertising agencies in central Manchester. And I’m also on the Board of another charity based in Rossendale. But I’m more than happy to give my time to Team Rise to ensure it prospers and grows as it rightly deserves to. It is humbling seeing how hard everyone at Team Rise works to enrich other people’s lives, and I hope my small contribution may also add a little bit to that to improve quality of life, growth and tolerance.
I’m from Rawtenstall where I’ve lived all my life. I enjoy socialising very much. I also love visiting different places with my lovely husband Michael with our gorgeous miniature schnauzer Luna.
Team Rise is a wonderful place to work. The welcome you get when you walk in is fabulous.
Seeing members grow in confidence is great, as some of our members would at first choose to sit on their own. But not now. This makes it all the worth while. And to top it off I’ve met some great people along the way.
I’m 21 and before Team Rise I worked for three years of upholstery. Whilst I enjoyed it, I wanted to expand my experience in a different direction. So I joined the Princes Trust team programme, to give me a bit more time to think about what I wanted to do. I chose Team Rise because I wanted the opportunity to help others and try my best to be a positive influence.
I’ve recently joined Team Rise as a member of staff I have really enjoyed working here, as it’s helped me progress my skills and experiences. I also get the chance to see all of the amazing accomplishments of our members. I am now also getting myself out of my comfort zone doing things I never thought I would do (such as being a fairy in the pantomime) and go places I wouldn’t normally go. I get to see the inner working of this amazing charity and get a sense of responsibility within my role at Team Rise.
I enjoy working for Team Rise as they are a wonderful group of people who are great to work with and I find it extremely rewarding to work with the individuals who come here each day. I find it to be so rewarding to see the young adults we work with forming friendship’s and developing skills whilst enjoying themselves.
I like the caring atmosphere, the fun and the feeling of friendship. I also like to help others and it is a pleasure to meet, work and play with everyone at Team Rise. It’s great to be part of a community that enables everyone to develop and blossom out.
Having made so many friends and getting as much pleasure as the group. We have plenty of laughs. I feel they are my second family. I have been doing it for 5 years now and still feel glad to be able to give my time to Team Rise. We have a fantastic leader in Sharon and a good bunch of volunteers to help with the group, who make everything possible and ensure we all have plenty of good times together. My daughter says she has to make an appointment to see me as I am so involved with Team Rise.
I really enjoy Team Rise as I experience different situations and problems and have a chance to offload worries and problems. I like to be a stepping stone or advice station. What I’ve learnt is that some situations or problems are outside your control, and understanding that Team Rise is not just one person. Being at Team Rise brings out a sense of humour for most situations.
I like seeing the people achieving success and being part of the community seeing them progress and learn new skills and making new friends.
At Team Rise I enjoy oing places that I would not normally think of going myself. The fact I am helping others less fortunate than myself achieve the best they can be and acquire different aspects in life, such as social skills, meeting new friends and getting enjoyment in life in a great friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
When I walk through the door at Team Rise I am greeted with lots of happy smiling faces. It’s such a joy and privilege to work with such wonderful people. It’s nice to feel that being a volunteer I am contributing to make a change to people’s lives, and it gets me out of bed in morning.
I live in Padiham. I retired early some years ago after a long career in the Probation Service. I have always been keen to be involved in different initiatives and met Sharon and Team Rise members bag packing in Tesco 12 months ago. I was immediately interested in joining as a volunteer and have never looked back. I’m at the project every Monday.
I believe passionately in the value of education and learning, in its broadest sense. And at Team Rise I see the benefits of the work we do and the projects that we undertake. Last summer I was asked to teach the group Beginners Spanish. This was such fun, and everyone joined in with enthusiasm. We created special folders and at the end of the programme everyone could introduce themselves and say something about themselves in Spanish. A marvellous achievement!
I feel lucky to have met so many wonderful and interesting people, all of whom have much to offer. Working at Team Rise gives me a chance to contribute to my community in a way that is very rewarding for me. And whilst I have the chance to help others, I’m continually developing new skills and growing as a person myself. It would be true to say that I receive far more than I give.
I joined the group around 7 years ago and I can honestly say it saved my sanity.
I had been off work for about a year with depression and was sinking further and further inwards not wanting to do anything or go anywhere. My daughter stepped in and started arranging things for me to do, stuff such as firstly going to the doctors for help, setting up courses for me to do such as retaking my maths and English tests. (She knew me well, that, if she arranged something for me to do I would not let her down, and I would reluctantly go whatever my feelings were). I then reached my retirement and Karen again stepped in.
She set up a meeting with Sharon Lees with a view to volunteering for a ‘few hours a week’. This absolutely changed everything for me and now my daughter complains that she has to make an appointment to see me, as my life revolves around Team Rise. I am happy in myself and feel that I am a valued member of society.
My main job is on Wednesday where I have a group who do mainly 3d Frames which we personalise for customers pets etc. We do other craft items in between but the 3d frames are our main sellers.
On Friday we go out and about to museums and fun things for Friday Funday, and then there are stalls, bag packs, board meetings and other fund raising days. I am often in T.E.A.M R.I.S.E on other days, printing stuff off etc.
I love what I do and love each and every member and all the volunteers and have made lots of new friends. If anyone has retired and are feeling lost, I would advise them to join a group such as ours as it is a lovely thing to do which gives you back much more than you can give out.
I recently retired after working for the NHS for 34 years as a community learning disability nurse for 21 of those years. I have two children Hannah is 19 and is at university and James is 29 and is a chef. My hobbies include going to shows, learning languages and going on trips.
I’m thrilled to volunteer at Team Rise every Wednesday and have been made very welcome and love all of the activities and spending time with everyone who comes. Wednesday is my favourite day of the week.
Could this be you?
We’re always on the look out for new members of the team and we’d love to be involved! If you’d like to join us, give us a call on 01282 427874.
